DTF transfer FAQs

DTF (direct-to-film) transfers are printed designs made to be heat pressed onto a garment. Lovie T Designs DTF transfers arrive ready to press, so you can place the transfer on your garment and apply it with a heat press using the recommended time, temperature, and pressure.

For our DTF transfers, press at 280–300°F with heavy pressure for 10–15 seconds, then peel hot. Cover the design and press again for 5–7 seconds. Pre-pressing the garment for 5–10 seconds helps remove moisture and wrinkles.

DTF transfers are commonly used on cotton, polyester, and many blended fabrics. Garments, heat presses, and fabric finishes can vary, so test unfamiliar materials and confirm the garment can safely handle the required pressing temperature.

Ready-to-press DTF, bring-your-own-file, and gang-sheet orders placed by 12 PM Central can ship the same business day. Customized designs and completed apparel require additional production time. Carrier delivery time is separate from production time.

Arrange the designs you want printed on the available gang-sheet space, leaving enough room to cut each design apart after printing. Our gang-sheet options can accommodate sheets up to 360 inches long, depending on the product you select.

DTF uses a printed transfer that is heat applied to the surface of a garment and can be used on a broad range of compatible garment colors and fabrics. Sublimation uses dye that bonds with suitable polyester-based material and generally has different garment and color requirements.

Phones, monitors, brightness settings, file color values, garment color, and print materials can all affect how a color appears. A screen is backlit while a printed transfer is not, so an exact screen-to-print match cannot always be guaranteed.

Yes. DTF transfers can be used on compatible dark garments. Follow the pressing instructions for the transfer and make sure the garment itself can safely handle the recommended heat and pressure.
